Cristina Escolà

Soprano born in Barcelona. She began her studies in dramatic art at the Institut del Teatre in her city and in Art History at the U.A.B. As an actress she has collaborated in various productions, such as “La primera de la clase” by R. Sirera and the collection of monologues “El amor, esta gran incógnita” among others. She was part of different choral entities. She began her singing studies with Víctor Frigola. She has completed professional degree studies and later higher singing studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceo in Barcelona. She has also trained as a choir director and soprano Carmen Bustamante, soprano Ana María Sánchez, and bass-baritone Carlos Chausson. With Carmen Bustamante she continues to perfect her vocal technique.

Musically she has performed lied, opera, oratorio, zarzuela concerts, and has recorded a CD of carols and traditional Catalan songs. She premiered the vocal work of the Catalan composer, Cruz de Sant Jordi, Eduard Blanxart. She has collaborated in musical theatre productions such as “Desire of opera” performed at the Versus Teatre, at the Gaudí Theatre and in theatres throughout Catalonia. She has sung at the Palau de la Música Catalana, in the Hall of Mirrors at the Liceu, in the concerts at the Casa Batlló and at the Monastery of Santa María de Pedralbes in Barcelona, ​​​​Teatro Kural in Manresa, Teatro Fortuny in Reus, Auditorium of Granollers, Auditorium Atrium in Viladecans, among others.

Her opera repertoire includes the following roles: Gianneta in “El elisir de amore” by Donizetti, Dª. Gobineau in Menotti’s “La Medium”, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, Countess Rosina in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”, Fiordiligio in Mozart’s “Primo fan tutte”, Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata”, Lola in Mascagni’s “Caballería rusticana”, Mimi in Puccini’s “La Boheme”, Sudor Angelica in Puccini’s “Suor Angelica”, Turandot in Puccini’s “Turandot”, Madama Butterfly in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly”.

She has also performed the roles of Angela in “The Count of Luxembourg” and Velencienne in “The Merry Widow”, both operettas by F. Lehar.
In the field of zarzuela she has played the roles of: Catrina and Francina in the “Song of love and war” by R. Martínez Valls, Carlota in “The Legion of Honor” by R. Martínez Valls, Angelita in Chateau Margaux by Mª Fernández Caballero, Luisa Fernanda and the Duchess Carolina in Luisa Fernanda by F. Moreno Torroba, the Queen in The Court of the Pharaoh by Vicente León, Pepa in Water, sugar and brandy by Federico Chueca, Marola in “The tavern keeper of the port” by Pablo de Sorozábal, Amapola in “The legend of the kiss” by Soutullo and Vert, Katiuska in “Katiuska the Russian woman” by Pablo de Sorozábal, Berta in “The general” by Amadeo Vives, Dolores in “La Dolorosa” by Serrano, Rosa in “The carnations” by Serrano, Aurora in “The one from Soto del Parral” by Soutullo and Vert, Mariblanca in “El cantar del Arriero” by Fernando Díaz Giles.
She is the main promoter of the “Opera sin fronteras” initiative, which is dedicated to making lyrical singing heard by those who cannot go to a concert hall. She currently combines her work as an interpreter with teaching, choral and theatre direction.
