Antonio Ruíz Mellado

He studied at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Barcelona with Carme Undebarrena. He was awarded the prize of honor for professional studies by unanimous decision of the jury at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Barcelona. He completed the tenth level of piano studies with highest marks. He won the first prize in the tenth competition of Vilafranca de Penedés (1985) and first prize in the first Chamber Music Competition of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1985). He continued his studies in Paris with Monique Dechaussés. He took part in courses given by Fréderic Gevers. He then began an active career as a pianist, giving concerts at national and international festivals. Since 1990, he is a professor at the Luthier School of Music in Barcelona. He has also taught at the Igualada School of Music, Aula 7 and the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Barcelona. He was a founder of the Trio Novalis with Olvido Lanza, violin, and Lito Iglesias, cello. The trio received coachings and classes with the Trio Fontenay of Hamburg, Charles Rosen, Barry Green and the Delme string quartet of London. With the Trio Novalis, he won first prize at the National Chamber Music Competition Montserrat Alavedra in 1992, and since then has an important concert career.
