Sadahiro Otani

He was born in Osaka, Japan. He studied with Yoshikuni Onishi at the University of Soai, where he received his degree in music in 1993. Later, he continued to broaden his knowledge of classical guitar with Keigo Fujii. Eventually he moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he enrolled in the post graduate program at the Luthier School of Art. He worked under the supervision of Alex Garrobe, Fernando Rodriguez, and Arnaldur Arnarson. Afterwards, he received his master’s degree in concert performance. He has participated in various international classical guitar courses given by performers such as DavidRussell, Manuel Barrueco, Joaquin Clerch, Marco Socias, Hopkins Smith, William Waters, and Jordi Savall, among others. He has won numerous competitions including the first prize in the competition of Spanish Guitar Music Competition in Tokyo, and the International Guitar Competition in Okinawa. He won a diploma of honors at the International Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona and was awarded the title of “Best Guitar Interpreter” in the Young Musicians of Barcelona Festival. He also won first prize in the International Guitar Competition held in the city of Coria and first prize in the International Guitar Competition of Zarautz. He has performed recitals and concerts in all the important cities in Japan: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Sendai, Okinawa, Hiroshima, etc…. He has also performed recitals in important international festivals in Spain, Italy, and Holland. He has recorded several performances for radio, television and films in Spain and Japan. Currently he is professor of guitar at the Luthier School of Musical Arts and at the School of Music and Dance of Móra d´Ebre. He is a member of Ensemble Barcelona Nova Musica (EBNM) and Solo 2.
